Every time I get irked with MacOS, or get annoyed with the iPad, I weigh moving back to Windows. Then I see threads like this…
- conradfr 8y agoMaybe the real problem is that the two major desktop OS are currently bad.
- wetpaws 8y agoHint: there is 3rd one
- demxzy 8y agoAnd the third one has gotten much better in recent years
- cududa 8y agoNo
- satya71 8y agoThere is, but it's worse. Especially since GNOME 3. I know you can use MATE or Cinnamon, but it's not the default on any of the major platforms.
- didibus 8y agoKDE is really good right now. I'd highly recommend it. Something like KDE Neon or OpenSuse are both really solid OS experiences right now.
- norova 8y agoI made the switch from Windows 10 to Manjaro w/KDE about 2 months ago. Took about a week of ironing out some things and forcing myself to stick it out, but now I love it. I will also vouch for KDE being really good right now.
- AnthonyMouse 8y agoThey technically have defaults, but when the difference for most distributions (e.g. Debian) is just checking a different box in the installer, it seems like a silly thing to complain about.
- clear_dg 8y agoI think there's an assumption that the default DE gets more attention from the distro; it's more polished, and "just works" (or at least, something approaching the concept on Linux). e.g. from what I remember, when installing xfce in debian, you get the ugly barebones defaults from upstream. Compare this to Xubuntu...

- sgwae 8y agoFor those who cant be bothered to google, its Android.
- throwaway080383 8y agoPretty sure they meant Linux.
- sgwae 8y agoIt looks like desktop linux/ unknown browser is negligable in userbase. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_sys...
- vbezhenar 8y agoWhy do you care? It works.
- sgwae 8y agoNone of the major os vendors have great usabability. They work, but with lousy updates, and/or limited customization. Some of the android phones I buy dont even have rooting options.
- AnthonyMouse 8y agoAndroid isn't a desktop operating system and mobile device hardware continues to be a huge mess. That doesn't stop you from buying a PC from Dell or building one from parts and installing Debian/Ubuntu/Mint/whatever-you-want on it. The percentage of other people who do that is irrelevant because the absolute number is still millions of people, which is more than enough to sustain a community and produce a competitive user experience. I have an old computer with Windows on it and would turn it on once in a blue moon for the occasional thing that required Windows. It has been years since I've had to use it.

- doggydogs94 8y agoWhat’s the third one?
- NullPrefix 8y agoGiant douche and turd sandwich.
- vbezhenar 8y agoI returned to Windows after few years in macOS and I can't say anything bad about it. It works well. I know many people who upgraded without data loss. Sure, bug is bug, but don't overestimate the probability that it'll happen to you, it's not like MS releases untested software, just keep your backups.
- lostlogin 8y agoAs far as I can tell, the plateau is reached where you have a dislike of every platform and settle on a choice that is least bad.
