  Which makes it more curious. Last year, Apple PR denied existence of the security incident, but today they admitted it actually happened. That is a contradiction.

    No contradiction. Read it closely: The old statement said that no infected firmware was found on servers purchased from supermicro, meaning freshly purchased servers delivered from supermicro were clean. The ArsTechnica clarifies in an update to the article that the infected driver was installed later. The new statement says: "That one-time event was determined to be accidental and not a targeted attack against Apple."
