- blakespot 8y agoYes, as I explain in the article. I kept coming across media calling ray tracing a new technique, in articles about the RTX boards. I responded to a few and thought I'd talk about it on the blog. Enjoying ray traced animations (pre-rendered) on the Amiga was a thrill for me back in the old days, and so it felt a good fit for my vintage computing blog.
- deburo 8y agoThe title could've been: Ray Tracing, an old technique finally viable in games.

- georgeecollins 8y agoDoom was real time ray traced.
- delinka 8y agodefinitely not. https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Doom_rendering_engine#Rendering https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Doom_rendering_engine#Rendering
- georgeecollins 8y agoYou are right-- sorry
- jbattle 8y agoI think the term is 'ray casting' - though a quick bit of googling shows that wolfenstein 3d was ray casted, but doom was not. (instead Doom used a BSP-based technique that I can't find a pithy name for)
