Hawaiian pizza
- oldmancoyote 8y agoHa! Talk about shameless cultural appropriation. There ought to be a law.
- anoncoward111 8y agoAnd in reality it was on offer from a German TV chef even before the Greco-Canadian appropriation version. Life is global now!
- monksy 8y agoDeath penalty for those who make Hawaiian pizza? I think that's the only acceptable punishment. :)
- ai_ja_nai 8y agoHere's a much better one: mandatory melted cheese in their fruit salad (due to their criminal misuse of pineapple)
- psergeant 8y agoI have an enduring memory of being a child in Bangkok eating “Super Hawaiian” pizza, which was a Hawaiian with Thousand Island dressing
- sonnyblarney 8y agoIn France they put Egg on pizza, like you have a big ole fried egg in the middle. I find that crazy. Whilst Pineapple might seem odd ... it's amazing.
- psergeant 8y agoI think that’s in Florence
- Latty 8y agoI never really got why pineapple on pizza is considered weird - at least here in the UK it's common to get a gammon steak with pineapple on it, or have roast pork with apple sauce which is a similar concept. I can get not liking it if it isn't your thing, but I don't think it is a particularly odd topping.
- Ibethewalrus 8y agoThere’s also a Mexican taco with pineapple as a topping, eaten pretty much anywhere
- wavefunction 8y agoTaco al pastor and it's the result of Lebanese immigrants to Mexico bringing the doner kebab/shawarma "trompo" and applying it to pork. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_pastor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_pastor
- m-i-l 8y agoOn the gammon with pineapple thing - I remember a popular science programme when I was young (Tomorrow's World maybe) about gammon and pineapple. It started with a story from the Second World War about some soldiers in the Pacific theatre, who were stranded in occupied territory, and survived by coming out at night and stealing pineapples from the fields. Apparently all their teeth fell out, and this was not because the sugar in the pineapples had simply rotted their teeth as the soldiers initially thought, but because of enzymes in the pineapples softening their gums. And it is these enzymes that soften meat and make pineapple a great meat tenderiser, and hence a great accompaniment for gammon.
- Fnoord 8y agoHow's that crazy? Its just a variation of omelette au fromage.
- ai_ja_nai 8y agoIt's Bismarck pizza: margherita with open egg in the middle (not fried, but cooked in the oven)
- stygiansonic 8y agoThere’s a few of these types of things in Canada. Boston Pizza: Started in Edmonton New York Fries: Originated in Brantford, ON
- rectangletangle 8y agoCaesar salad is a Mexican dish, created by and Italian chef, targeted toward American consumers.
- tomcam 8y agoI make it with pineapple, cashew, garlic, and red onions.
- acd 8y agoThe interesting fact is that hawaiian pizza was invented in Canada. You might have guessed from the name Hawaiian Pizza came from Hawaii. Another similar is Danish bread which was not invented in Denmark but in Vienna. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_pastry https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danish_pastry
- eboyjr 8y agoIt would be interesting to know why they get these country names. And I would guess most people here know that french fries were created in Belgium.

- ahartmetz 8y agoObviously US pizza eaters are very weird people. Their least favorite toppings are pineapple, anchovies and mushrooms. Not liking mushrooms on pizza is just wrong.
- xkcd-sucks 8y agoIt's impossible cook a fresh mushroom dry on top of a pizza, so they make the cheese watery. Precooked like carmelized onions are good but few places do that
- rosege 8y agoFor those of you that like Hawaiian pizza try adding prawns/shrimp to it. Its a very good combo!
