- patrickaljord 8y agoThis what I see https://i.imgur.com/VYryFhi.png https://i.imgur.com/VYryFhi.png gdi GDPR.
- saagarjha 8y agoBlame the website, not GDPR.
- tropo 8y agoI have to wonder if all the blocking might be an intended outcome. You have created something like the Great Firewall of China, except that you outsourced it via a vague law with serious legal danger.
- SmellyGeekBoy 8y agoI'm sure the fact that we can no longer access websites that solely exist to harvest and sell our personal data will be a great loss to society.
- patrickaljord 8y agoStill looks a lot like censorship in effect to me.
- joking 8y agoWTF, not available in european countries? one of those gdpr wall of shame sites?
- olouv 8y agoNice... blocked for EU residents: > Unfortunately, our website is currently unavailable in most European countries. We are engaged on the issue and committed to looking at options that support our full range of digital offerings to the EU market. We continue to identify technical compliance solutions that will provide all readers with our award-winning journalism. US version: > Usually, U-Haul truck rentals are advertised at an affordable sticker price, comfortably in the three-digit range. But a trend out of northern California is pushing that sticker price as high as $2,000, and moving Californians to disbelief. https://twitter.com/nolimits/status/968626509320617984/photo/1 https://twitter.com/nolimits/status/968626509320617984/photo...
- smelendez 8y agoI also wonder if more people moving to SF have relocation bonuses than people moving away. If a company is covering your move, you'll be more likely to hire movers rather than rent a U-Haul.
- netsharc 8y agoThey can't even do their region block properly, they block Swiss IPs, Switzerland is not in the EU, you morans!
- tim333 8y agoand it goes on >The cost to rent a 26-foot U-Haul truck — big enough to move a three- to four-bedroom home — out of San Francisco headed to Las Vegas reached as high as $2,085 for four days. To rent the same truck going in the opposite direction is only a fraction of that cost — $132. Courtesy of Hide.me free VPN. I'm in London but set it to Singapore.
- driverdan 8y agoMy favorite statistic is that the city of SF spends over $30k a year per homeless person. They'd be better off giving them all jobs.
- otalp 8y agoOr a basic income....
- prawn 8y agoWould a basic income (often spoken of as about $12k/y) cover housing in the area they're currently frequenting? If not, what will that realistically change?
- s0rce 8y agoI've posted this before but that is a meaningless statistic. You want to know how much is spent per person kept out of homelessness (or for some other services). Lets say we could spend an extra 10M to house the last 4999 of the hypothetical 5000 total homeless. Now we are spending an astronomical 10M per a single homeless person, clearly ludicrous but its simply that the metric is wrong. We are actually spending 2000 per person who isn't becoming homeless in this toy scenario, real life is obviously more complicated.
- stevenwoo 8y agoAt the very least, buying all of them healthcare under ACA, although they might be eligible to get it subsidized.
- adventured 8y agoMost homeless persons in California qualify for Medi-Cal. They run into other problems however, which the ACA premise wouldn't solve (only traditional universal healthcare would), so they get stuck using free clinics. https://californiahealthline.org/morning-breakout/many-calif-homeless-not-taking-advantage-of-medical-eligibility/ https://californiahealthline.org/morning-breakout/many-calif...
