Correlation does not imply causation[1]. Looks to me this is one of the studies that I would label as "shallow" or "problematic".

If you have specific covariants that you think better explain their results, present them. Otherwise, "correlation does not imply cause" is little more than a lowbrow dismissal dressed in a labcoat.
