I don't care about Tesla at all, not a fan boy or anything, but I don't understand all the blaming on Tesla for this accident.
So, the guy had complained 'between 7 and 10 times' about Autopilot malfunctioning there, yet he kept on using it
Autopilot disengaged before the crash, giving visual and audible alerts before turning off, yet he didn't take the wheel, so he probably was doing something else instead of keeping attention in a zone where he said the thing failed...
How many times do they have to say that even if you're using AP you need to stay focused on the road?
I'm sorry for the guy, but if you don't trust a system that's as critical as this you either don't use it or you're very cautious when using it.
- lozenge 9y agoThe article doesn't say when the visual and audible alerts happened, they could have been minutes previous on another stretch of road. I agree he should have disabled Autopilot there if he knew it was an issue, however why didn't Tesla recommend that to him when he made the report? And the removal of the concrete barrier may have been a new factor that he didn't expect and caused Autopilot to fail much more severely.
- yougotit 9y agoHa, you just fell for Tesla PR. Maybe you should read their statement again. It is gullible people like you that they create these misleading statements.
- kj65557 9y agoNo need for ad hominem attacks. You make no rebuttals to the points made by the comment above and just dismiss it as PR. Just because something is (or isn't) PR doesn't mean that it's false.
- yougotit 9y agoI love people on this site. It is literally the only site where you respond to a comment and people start listing fallacies. My answer stands. Numerous people in other comments have explained how Tesla carefully crafted the statement so that gullible people would think it said something different and this guy fell for it. Better start listing some more fallacies in this response! Here is a list if you need help https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fallacies https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fallacies

- biktor_gj 9y agoNot at all, and I assume they will be hiding as much as they can to avoid as many problems as they can, but that's not my point. If you have a problem with something, you don't keep playing with it when you know it's going to fail. My Philips TV turns on by itself at night. Instead of waking up at 3am to shut it down I power it down hard before going to bed instead of putting it on standby. The same way, if you know you have a problem with something that can kill you in some road you just don't keep using it "in case it does it right this time"... ...and in any case if you dont trust the system, you dont keep your hands off the steering wheel... (unless the guy had a heart attack or something just before the accident and that was why he didn't do anything, we're all assuming he was capable of driving but he might have lost conciussness or something , then autopilot disengaged, then the crash happened, but I don't know, and everything we can do is speculate...
