This guy sounds like one of the most dangerous people on earth.
- userbinator 9y agoI wonder how much harrassment he receives... along with everyone else in the authoritarian pro-DRM crowd.
- mncharity 9y ago> This guy sounds like one of the most dangerous people on earth. His argument doesn't delight me either, but individuals are rarely the problem. Most people's beliefs reflect the beliefs of some culture of which they are part. It's rarely just one person who believes something. Even in authoritarian dictatorships, the king's decisions and survival usually rest on a weave of broader interests. When someone says something with which one strongly disagrees, it can be fruitful to approach this as a source of insight into their cultures. Cultures which often last longer than individuals. Lynton is retired now, or soon will be. The LA subcultures in which his remarks were relatively unremarkable, continue on. And will continue to shape government policy for years to come. Perhaps it's those cultural beliefs on which more long-term attention might usefully be focused. Perhaps we would be in a better place now, if more hollywood types had been appointed to tech boards over the years? EDITED to improve clarity.
- api 9y agoHe sounds like anyone else whose culture and livelihood is threatened. If/when the current tech culture is severely undermined by change most people on this board will sound like that.
