Dropbox refusing to service customers wanting more space
Individual users of Dropbox cannot purchase more space beyond 1Tb. Dropbox is refusing to service these customers and instead tries to get them on a business plan. The business plan is x 4.5 more expensive requiring a minimum of 3 users. Worse still, DropBox spams individual users to upgrade to a business plan with popups using the DropBox application installed on their machine.

However, you are in a tiny minority, and offering that would cannibalize business plans because companies would share logins to save money. As a regular Dropbox user, I want them to sell business plans to pay for all the free users that make my life easier. 1TB is still larger than the free space on most computers so restricting 2TB to business is a segmenting strategy that doesn’t limit most users. Have you thought about why storing 2TB is important enough to pay $200/year but not to pay $450/year? Maybe there is a way you can use the extra features in Business to mitigate the difference.
