When is videocalling and screensharing coming to Linux?
- jsherwani 9y agoLinux already has video calls and screen sharing! Just no shared control / drawing.
- lwhsiao 9y agoThat shared control and having both mouse pointers visible was really the key value of Screenhero for me. I would love to see something that does this on Linux.
- wink 9y agoJust tried it, I could see a Mac user's screen without problems (and draw on it, but not click) I could also screenshare which "kind of" worked, but it was a bit wonky with virtual desktops in xmonad (graphics glitches, but workable)
- eikenberry 9y agoSlack's beta Linux client already supports video calling and screen sharing.
- ledbettj 9y agoDoes not seem to work under Wayland. You can see the mouse pointer, but the rest of the screen is black. Haven't tried it under X yet.
- michaelmrose 9y agoDon't worry I'm sure it will work in 5 or 6 years when they get around to implementing this functionality in some subtly incompatible way on each major desktop environment. Since its impossible to implement something that works across multiple environments hopefully whichever one does the best job of providing this feature also does a decent job of providing every other feature that previously was able to be provided by any app.
- twothamendment 9y agoIt "works" for me, but my "screen" is virtual - so slack wants to share both monitors as one big screen. So yes, it works, but not for my setup. It isn't useful. Being able to pick which monitor or app to show would make it useful. Being able to share the current app, whatever that is would be awesome. It has driven me to use google meet - which seems to be more stable and doesn't bog down my system.
