New MacBook Pro user here: the four USB-C (+ stereo mini audio jack) port configuration doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. It's nice that I can plug the power cable in on either side of the laptop. One almost inevitably needs some kind of display dongle unless you have both HDMI and VGA on board (and VGA is an ugly port, let's be honest), although I'll say the lack of native HDMI is a pain point for me. But also, if I'm using the laptop without power, I now have 4 ports available, which is more than enough.

And the official Apple USB C to HDMI/USB adapter charges slower through the passthrough than a direct connection, meaning if I'm low on battery I need to dedicate a USB port to charging. My monitor at home (XR382CQK) supports USB C and that's ok, it charges, does video, and acts as a hub via one cable. The problem is the world hasn't had time to embrace USB C. I'd gladly trade my old setup of needing two cables (one Magsafe + one Thunderbolt) for not needing a dongle literally everywhere else I use my laptop with an external display.
