There's got to be a joke along the lines of "QA guy walks into a bar, goes down to the cellar, orders -1 beers" somewhere in this story.

- dreamcompiler 9y agoVisiting the head is when I usually order -1 beers.
- kevin_thibedeau 9y agoIn the Apple ][ lemonade stand simulation game you could order negative quantities of supplies and your account would be credited without having to actually sell anything.
- dagw 9y agoI now want to plug in my Apple ][, load up lemonade stand and try that.
- joezydeco 9y agoMe too. Just tried it, it filters out negative numbers. https://archive.org/details/a2_Lemonade_Stand_1979_Apple https://archive.org/details/a2_Lemonade_Stand_1979_Apple
- ghusbands 9y agoAnd it seems to have no obvious overflow issues. Either there are multiple versions or the claim that negative numbers work is simply wrong.
- joezydeco 9y agoMight be more simple than that. In the source of the Apple-published program, there's a comment that it was based on an earlier program from MECC* (you might remember them as the creators of Oregon Trail). That program goes back to 1973. Perhaps that version didn't check the input. * https://web.archive.org/web/20130226024448/http://theodor.lauppert.ws/games/lemonade.htm https://web.archive.org/web/20130226024448/http://theodor.la...

- marvin 9y agoA piece of widely used Norwegian online retail software also did this for a long time. If you had a negative quantity of a product in your shopping basket, the value of the product would be subtracted from your total.
