  Yes it is. There are actually many different cryptocurrencies (sometimes called altcoins) out there, here is a list of over 700: http://coinmarketcap.com/ http://coinmarketcap.com/ Ethereum is probably the second most important one after bitcoin.

  Ethereum is a decentralized platform that runs smart contracts: applications that run exactly as programmed without any possibility of downtime, censorship, fraud or third party interference. It is also a valuable cryptocurrency which is used as the payment to run code on the network.
