- andy_ppp 9y agoBy default everything is backed up to iCloud right?
- rubatuga 9y agoYou don't have to enable icloud
- mfukar 9y agoYou have the option of not logging in to iCloud at all.
- tinus_hn 9y agoYou can barely backup an iPhone to the free iCloud option. There is no free Mac backup to iCloud. Also imagine the bandwidth requirements, for many people such a backup would run forever without completing.
- 0x0 9y agoIt's not the default, you get a prompt during setup/activation where you choose to enable or disable iCloud.
- matthewmacleod 9y agoNo.
- rubatuga 9y agoOpt out is much easier for Apple products. Did you know you can't disable cortana? On the other hand, upon enabling Siri in macOS, you're presented with a lengthy warning about privacy policy and such. It's obvious which OS values your privacy more
- endgame 9y agoIndeed. GNU/Linux.
- chillingeffect 9y agoI have to have windows for one program, fusion 360. Tried freecad, but it's not there yet. Everything else is ubuntu and Debian.
- rubatuga 9y agonow the real question, how many problems does it create while you solve the privacy and open source issue?
- boomboomsubban 9y agoWhat? There is no privacy and open source issue.
- scott_karana 9y agoDid you completely miss the "Ubuntu search bar sends keystrokes to Amazon to show you adverts" fiasco?...
- boomboomsubban 9y agoSo the issue is "sometimes software won't respect your privacy, you will be aware of this and can change it or use something else." That's not an issue.
- H4CK3RM4N 9y agoI'd say Linux(yes, Linux, I'm not talking about Hurd) is more indifferent to privacy than protective of it.
- pjc50 9y agoThere's a rather surprising and inconvenient route to disable cortana: change the install language. Cortana is primarily available in English.
- Sylos 9y agoJust compare their privacy policies. Microsoft's makes basically no exceptions for things that they may do with your data. Apple's still reads like it actually tries to outline a sane piece of software.
