- jumpCastle 10y agoI'm not an expert on routers but if I was in the market I would look at the Wirecutter. I find their recommendations pretty good. thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-wi-fi-router/
- amq 10y agoA starting point for me: LEDE support
- e12e 10y agoThat's: https://lede-project.org https://lede-project.org or:“Linux Embedded Development Environment” - the new project born from OpenWRT. I've used it with some old d-link routers, and I'm quite happy. The documentation is still not stellar, but it has gotten better, and the configuration more consistent. It's quite easy to set up ssh-access with a key, and simply get a copy of configuration files with scp - ready to set up identical configurations on new router installs.
- corford 10y agoDraytek are a good choice at the consumer level.
- Nexxxeh 10y agoHaving used Drayteks, and supported them, and indeed having owned one (company supplied for site-to-site VPN) I wouldn't recommend them. The feature set is great, the router is not.
- corford 10y agoFair enough. This is the problem with consumer gear, it's all so variable. For me, Draytek have been the only vaguely consistent vendor over the years. I've had countless issues with T-link, Asus and Netgear routers.
- chadgeidel 10y agoChiming in here with more anecdotal evidence - I always look in the Tomato (http://www.polarcloud.com/tomatofaq#what_will_this_run_on http://www.polarcloud.com/tomatofaq#what_will_this_run_on, http://tomato.groov.pl/?page_id=69 http://tomato.groov.pl/?page_id=69) and DD-WRT (http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database) "supported router" sections. Personally I like the Netgear routers which have semi-official support here: https://www.myopenrouter.com/ https://www.myopenrouter.com/
