Is SNP racist? I honestly don't know. But it seems staying in Europe would suggest a pro-imigrant stance.

- AimHere 10y agoSNP are explicitly pro-Immigration. As you'd expect - the population in a large chunk of the land area of Scotland is worried about the effects of depopulation eroding small rural communities. From their website: The SNP believe that immigration is essential to the strength of our economy and adds greatly to our cultural fabric. We propose a fair, robust and secure immigration system that meets Scotland’s social and economic needs. Therefore we will seek, as a priority, the reintroduction of the post study work visa, so that those we have helped educate are able, if they so choose, to make a contribution to our economy.
- falsedan 10y ago> Is SNP racist? Some people see the SNP's strong desire to separate from Westminster as anti-English.
- timthelion 10y agoOh the poor English :( technically that would be sectarian and not racist, as both Scotts and English bellong to the same race.
- rukittenme 10y agoCelts and Anglo-Saxons are not the same race.
- falsedan 10y agoThey would technically be considered "people" of the same race, but also Scotland hasn't been Celtic for a long time! The original inhabitants of Great Britain were Brythonic + Pictish (of the Celts), but in Scotland they were squeezed out by the Gaelic (also of the Celts) tribes (including the Scotti) crossing the Irish Sea into the west, the Norse crossing the North Sea and expanding into the isles from the north, and a rotating cast of invaders from the south: Romans, Danes (the Angles of Jutland and the Saxons), Normans (the Norse by way of Brittany in France), and English (a strange hodge-podge of remnants of various invaders).
- rmc 10y agoMost anti-racism law (incl UK anti-racism law from the 1960s) defines racism as also being based on ethnicity, or national original. So, yes, under the UK anti-racism law, it would count as racism.
- vixen99 10y agoLast I heard, Scotland would have to join the queue of applicants to be considered as a new EU member and no one in Brussels (definitely anti-nationalistic) wanted to encourage Scotland in this move. Spain would undoubtedly veto this given their strong stance against Catalan independence. They could be out in the cold. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/feb/10/independent-scotland-would-have-to-apply-for-eu-membership https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/feb/10/independent...
- ruairidhwm 10y agoCommented a few times on the Catalan point but I don't think it's as big an issue as it's made out to be. Rajoy will likely follow the direction set by the EC and also, Catalonia is a different situation to Scotland. The former is a region of Spain whereas Scotland is already a sovereign entity and would only be withdrawing from the Act of Union, not seceding from a country. Edit: Also, it's already a choice between 100% being out of the EU if we stay in the UK, or at least having a shot of joining the EU which could be more likely in the backdrop of Brexit negotiation.
