You really don't remember what tech was like 10 years ago.

In 2006 the linux desktop was about the same as it is now, the Windows one was better. In 2006 I didn't have a smartphone yet. And in 2016, I don't have one any more. (Actually I have one from work, but I only seem to use it as a wireless hotspot.)

    Noone used vista, it was XP, 7, 10 for 90% of users.

      Per the graphs at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_syste... it looks like Vista peaked at 40%.

      Vista ran very well for me in 2 GB of RAM. It was absurdly slow in 1 GB machines, especially on laptops shipped with Vista plus bloatware. I used Vista until 7 came out. I usually upgrade Windows versions rapidly. Linux too, I usually jump into the Fedora betas. I haven't been sorry yet. Anyway, your own statement is contradictory. From what you said 10% is not "no one."

    Vista, I admit was terrible. But XP was very good for its time -- it brought in the big menus and (quasi?) full-screen stuff which later metastasied in Win 10. Though those menus were also a throwback to the good old DOS text-mode menu systems. Win7 was of course another good one, a few years later. But note: the difference between Win7 and Vista was not the UI design -- it was the performance and other aspects of technical execution.
