So I think everyone realizes this won't stop anything, which means the real question is what is the motive?
Is this an attempt to nudge people to Pre-check and the other related services that are privately owned? The former seems like it would be a great recurring revenue source for the agency and the latter would be an opportunity to pad someone's wallet.
Are there any financial conflicts of interest that are known about the various privately held Pre-check type companies? I believe Pre-check itself is an official government program.
Follow the money.
- xapata 10y agoPre-check is so cheap, it probably costs more than it brings in revenue.
- r00fus 10y agoI remember when we had the "luxury" of pre-check security for free. You know, back before the fascists who voted for Patriot Act wiped their collective asses with our Constitution.
- tsycho 10y agoPre check is institutionalized racism. Given the criteria for qualification, it's not surpassing that predominantly white people are able to use it.
- sitkack 10y agoI didn't have time to snap the picture, but I was in the pleeb lane standing behind some very dark skinned Africans and two lanes to the right in the Lexus lane was a large group of shinning, twinkly blonde Australians. If someone wanted to fabricate a story about apartheid being instituted in America, this would have been it.

- xapata 10y agoWhat criteria? The only requirement I'm aware of is having the free time to visit one of their offices for 5 minutes and have your thumbprint taken. I think I showed my passport and answered 1 or 2 questions about what I do for a living. I expected a much more invasive interrogation, but it was nearly nothing. Also no wait. In/out.
