- throwanem 10y agoCalf brains scrambled into eggs aren't bad, though very salty. Best scrambled with cream and soft cheese, and served on dark toast.
- virtuabhi 10y agoHave not read the article. But this comment about eating calf brains is the most horrifying thing I have read this year.
- M_Grey 10y agoCan confirm. Brains are very fatty, so the end result is, "Hmmm... this omelet is very metallic, and I say... my teeth are coated with brains." Not. Fun. Plus, all the prions you can eat!
- caycep 10y agoI ate fried sliced veal brains as a Montreal place once. It was basically like a very creamy pudding.
- jacobolus 10y agoWhy is eating cow brains horrifying? People all over the world regularly eat cow brains. For instance, brain tacos are a standard menu item at Mexican taco stands. They are very rich in fat though, so I recommend only eating one or two at a time.
- chrisseaton 10y ago> Why is eating cow brains horrifying? I think a lot of people have been been put off by CJ disease.
- crowbahr 10y agoPrions man. Prions.
- jes5199 10y agothe dining habits of the wealthy are bewildering to me
- caycep 10y agoi half suspect back in the day, the less well-off ate the brains as to not waste any part of the cow, whereas the wealthy enjoyed lasagna...this is kind of like a sinusoidal curve
- prodigal_erik 10y agoSounds like lobster meat. Servants used to insist they wouldn't have to eat it more than twice per week, and prisoners complained about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobster#History https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobster#History
- icebraining 10y agoCows and pigs brains are actually a traditional ingredient in some European countries. You can find it around here in those cheap old traditional restaurants.
- princeb 10y agofor a moment I thought you meant the cheapo café had the calf brains. I remember growing up in a working class family and having tripe, kidneys, spleen, hearts, intestines, boiled in a soup for dinner. i didn't particularly love it, but seeing it in a menu brings back memories. calf brains though, that feels like a big step up from even hearts and lights.
- toomanybeersies 10y agoI eat hearts fairly regularly, because they're really cheap and fairly lean (once you cut the layer of fat off the outside). Lambs' hearts are about the cheapest meat I can get, definitely the cheapest boneless meat. They're also very similar in taste to normal lamb meat, since the heart is just a muscle.
