Read BBC TV, radio and film scripts
- marvel_boy 10y agoAwesome. It seems that BBC makes subtitles for all content. In my country (Spain) public TV is just rubbish.
- nothrabannosir 10y agoIt's also a lot cheaper, I imagine. BBC costs ±£145/household/year. Is it possible to determine the public cost of RTVE?
- marvel_boy 10y agoLet say UK population is 65M so 65 * 145 makes a grand total of £9425.000.000. Forget to calculate the cost of rubbish TVE, the government does not allow it, even we pay for it.
- timthorn 10y agoThe fee is per household, not person - however, there's no need to estimate the funding as the accounts are public: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/insidethebbc/reports/pdf/BBC-FS-2016.pdf http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/insidethebbc/reports/... The actual total income in 2015/16 was £4,805M, with £3,735M coming from the licence fee.
- open-source-ux 10y agoFor comparison, annual cost of a TV licence in other countries - Denmark: €332 (approx $360) - France: €136 (approx $145) - Germany: €215 (approx $230) - Italy: €100 (approx $230) - Ireland: €160 (approx $107) - Norway: €298 (approx $321) - Sweden: €247 (approx $266) - Switzerland: €439 (approx $473)
- icebraining 10y agoForget to calculate the cost of rubbish TVE, the government does not allow it, even we pay for it. How so? Their budgets are public[1]. It's a total of around 975M€/year, 920M€ of which come from direct and indirect taxes. There are about 18.35M households in Spain[2], so it costs ~50€/household/year. - the_unknown 10y ago$125/household - that's an amazing deal. We're blessed with some high-quality programming from the CBC here in Canada but would happily bump in a contribution to add BBC to the mix.
- vinay427 10y agoI'm not quite sure how you got that number, as £145 ≈ $181 USD. In any case, here in a US border city I get free access to CBC and PBS which is rather convenient. As I understand it, those on the other side of the river get access to both stations as well, so the local affiliates target both countries. BBC America and BBC World News are only available through cable providers, as far as I recall, though they seem to be included in many cable packages (as is CBC and obviously PBS).
- timthorn 10y agoAs a pedantic note, BBC America shows British TV including programmes from non-BBC stations.
- satysin 10y agoI had forgotten how much I hate reading scripts. It is 2017 and we still have such awful formatting for scripts? Why?!
- germinalphrase 10y agoBecause formatting serves a purpose? One significant purpose is that properly formatted screenplays are supposed average out to approx. one minute of screen time per page. It also draws attention to specific things + helps with easily dividing scripts/parts of scripts for different jobs on the film set.
- kaoD 10y agoHe isn't advocating against formatting. He's advocating against that formatting. His comment isn't very constructive though.
- kaoD 10y agoI'm curious. What do you hate about them and how would you solve it?
- anfractuosity 10y agoNice! It'd be kind of cool if they where in a format easily machine parsable, so you could easily identify content from each character. I guess it wouldn't be impossible though to take the pdfs and use information based on the text location on the page etc. to work out who the speech belongs to.
