I think "slaves" is not the best word to use here.
- wahsd 10y agoUnfortunately, it is actually quite appropriate. It should be called what it is, serfdom, but that's really more splitting hairs. The tech industry will usher in a new form of feudalism.
- mylons 10y agoSerfs is the most accurate
- cornholeconnie 10y agoIt's ok. It's just a word.
- tomphoolery 10y agoIt's a fitting description, but since Uber workers are paid I suppose a better analogy would be "master/servant".
- spraak 10y agoPeasants?
- lupin_sansei 10y agoNot being able to quit as you were owned by your master made one a slave. Slaves were often paid to increase motivation.
- 91bananas 10y agoI think that is the point that is trying to be made. If uber "captures" this industry they will become the "masters" it will be difficult to find work outside their network, giving you no choice but to stay.
- Animats 10y ago"Well, I do whatever he tells me to do." "Where I come from, we call that slavery." - Wonder Woman.
