I found the public toilets in Singapur amazing. I'm not sure about cheap labor, but they certainly have draconian penalties for making a mess.

- amelius 10y agoSingapore is still working really hard on being hospitable to foreign businesses. It works quite well.

Salaries and the cost of living are dramatically lower in Malaysia so apparently large numbers of Malaysians work in Singapore, often illegally, while essentially commuting from Malaysia. Having a large pool of cheap possibly undocumented labor would certainly seem to make getting repetitive unskilled tasks done easier and cheaper.
