Anonymous messaging has proven in practise to be full of cruel gossip, hate speech, and bullying. I can't see a positive use for it, really.
- CraigJPerry 10y agoIt's also proven to be full of insight, creativity and honesty. As a pretty active consumer of anonymous content, I'd hate to be without it now. Not to undermine your valid points but it is a pull medium, not a push. You're free not to consume. I expect twitter to end up in 2 tiers, the verified default view and the anonymous dark forest (what we have today) you can opt into.
- b3n 10y agoOut of curiosity, where do you consume your insightful anonymous content?
- netsharc 10y agoFrom the screenshot: "I'm at X, who wants to get coffee?" Are people this social, and this lonely? "Let me spend this 30 minutes of free time to talk to some random potential weirdo!"
- taneq 10y agoLonely? Or adventurous?
- stefs 10y agopeople aren't weirdos by default - most are nice, well adjusted people. if they actually are, you're the weirdo, not them.
- pjlegato 10y agoWhat's so weird about wanting to share your coffee with someone? The screenshot shows someone riding a train -- presumably they are in a distant city where they don't know anyone.
- pbhjpbhj 10y agoIt seems like it would be less problematic to approach a person and ask if they could show you around or, offer to buy someone in a coffee shop another drink rather than using a technical means that allows the other party to select themselves?
- ianai 10y agoYes but anyone in that locality can flag such posts.
- hogrammer 10y agoYou can't have citizens talking to each other directly! We need to regulate it! Have laws dictating the correct speech to use. Think of the Children! Think of the Women! What if someone's talking about an idea you don't like, or a political candidate you don't support!? That would be terrible! This sort of thing should be licensed and regulated!
