- brianwawok 10y agoSugar free soda means chemicals that mess with your body. Stick to water.
- copperx 10y agoIt's a noble sentiment, but it is based on research? Or just gut feeling?
- kyriakos 10y agoThere's conflicting studies about those too. Actually the ones I read that make out artificial sweeteners bad use very large quantities which are tens of times more than what a human could consume.
- takingflac 10y agoI'll leave deciding if artificial sweeteners are bad for you to the experts, but I do know that artificial sweeteners have a bad aftertaste in my experience.
- kyriakos 10y agoThis is completely based on my experience, I find aspartame based drinks to feel more like real sugar while Stevia based drinks really alter the flavor and leave a bitter after taste.
- criddell 10y agoDo you consider water to be a chemical?
- brianwawok 10y agoI think the long term health effects of drinking water vs not drinking water or pretty well understood. Also the effects of water vs no water on your body. I cannot say the same for random sugar-like-but-not-really-sugar chemical of the month.
- criddell 10y ago> I cannot say the same for random sugar-like-but-not-really-sugar chemical of the month. You could just call them sweeteners, non-nutritive sweeteners, or even artificial sweeteners. There's nothing more chemical-y about aspartame (for example) than sucrose, glucose, fructose, etc...
- brianwawok 10y agoExcept glucose and fructose are found in the normal human diet, and have been consumed for 100s of years. Where in nature do humans or animals eat aspartame? Now that doesn't necessarily mean they are bad, but it does mean they are unproven. You can find enough studies that show negative effects (in weight loss, gut bacteria, etc), that you should at least QUESTION your use of making your food sickly sweet without nutrition. Logically if your goal is to eat less sugar, again it seems counterintuitive to make everything you eat sickly sweet. Your body doesn't need to have sugar on everything, or in every beverage. Rather than substitute sugar (known bad) for fake sugar (unknown bad amount), you can just.. you know... drink water and eat better?
- criddell 10y ago> Where in nature do humans or animals eat aspartame? Are you suggesting aspartame is supernatural? :) I'm not arguing against any of what you said. I'm just suggesting the way you use the word "chemical" makes it sound like you think some things we consume are not chemicals.
