To the people who think I'm insane: There are university Facebook rideshare groups in California that offer that trip for $15. Today.
- nradov 10y agoThey're only able to offer trips for $15 because if someone is already making the drive anyway the marginal cost of carrying one more passenger is close to $0.
- dragonwriter 10y ago> There are university Facebook rideshare groups in California that offer that trip for $15. That's because those are real rideshare groups, not Uber-style quasi-taxis; the additional cost of an extra passenger when you are already planning on taking such a trip is small (at $15, you are well above it, and recovering costs you would have born without the extra passenger.) That really tells you nothing about the costs when you aren't piggybacking on someone already planning on making the trip.
- pikachu_is_cool 10y agoThat doesn't matter. What matters is these automated fleets will have to compete with that en masse, as I'm sure the killer app for ridesharing will come out within the next 10 years.
- foolfoolz 10y agomegabus and similar can do less than $15, with wifi. success is this area isn't about price for distance
- pikachu_is_cool 10y agoOf course. That's why I didn't mention that. The university rideshares are extremely pleasant, better than Uber in a lot of ways.
