My sister has a very bad drug problem. At this point we want her to go to jail, as it might help her want to get better. Sadly, as this guy said, it is very easy to get high in jail.
- corndoge 10y agoHave you been to jail? I wouldn't be so quick to dictate what's best for someone else. It's a fucked up place.
- reddytowns 10y agoMaybe he thinks his best considering not only his sister, but also the people his sister is affecting.
- nostrebored 10y agoAnd the intersection of these two things. Coming to terms with things you've done to other people is an extremely difficult thing that adds to an addict's sunk cost.
- thr303808 10y agoJail/prison is the absolute worst place you can send a drug addict to. If anything it usually makes things much, much worse. Sadly I don't have any solutions to your problems, only the advice to keep fighting for her and to treat her with compassion. If she's addicted to opioids you could consider buprenorphine.
- kilroy123 10y agoNo offense, but you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. We'd rather see her go to jail, than be dead. Which is a likely path for her.
- thr303808 10y agoI'm not offended. I know nothing about your situation specifically, but I understand that you just want to help her. Common advice given to my parents were to give up, there's nothing you can do, but they never did give up and I'm very thankful for that. I never went to prison, but I've met many who did. Maybe with a good facility it could be helpful, but most prisons are horrible environments with easy access to drugs. Addicts also die in prison, but maybe more common after being released for the difference in tolerance. Many are rejoining society with a massive prison drug debt, continuing the cycle.
- corndoge 10y agoHave you considered her thoughts on the matter? She may find she'd rather be dead than endure withdrawal in jail. Nevermind being a female in jail. No offense, but you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.
- opsiprogram 10y agohaha kilroy, you can't say "No offense" and then proceed with "you don't know what the fuck you are talking about" obviously offense was intended, literally how could you express the idea that someone hasn't considered all possibilities in a more offensive way?
- nostrebored 10y agoHonestly, I understand his frustration. People will tell you that you're wrong, that you're heartless, etc. when you express that you'd like it if one of your family members went to jail. Like you don't care about them and haven't considered the potential consequences of such a serious thing. I know multiple people who have gotten clean in jail. And I know that for at least a few, they were a serious threat to themselves and others. Attitudes like the gps are not always right, but are pretty much the only opinions I hear expressed.
- twblalock 10y agoIt's very likely that it would be easier for her to kill herself with illegal drugs in jail than outside of jail.
