I've actually just left T-Mobile BECAUSE of the shady stuff they are doing with Binge-On. The "all of our customers LOVE Binge-On!" is absolutely not true. Looking at you John.
- Someone1234 11y agoYou left T-Mobile instead of just turning it off?
- plexicle 11y agoAbsolutely. In the process of doing so. It's more about the fact that they WOULD do it, not so much that I can "opt-out". It's bad enough that it's even happening-- it's 10x worse to me that it's "opt-out" and that they are flat out lying about it to people.
- revelation 11y agoThe only problem is you'll be switching to someone like AT&T, who happily MitM your connections to insert extra ad-tracking cookies and the like.
- plexicle 11y agoSadly, you're not wrong. So I'm stuck trying to find the evils that I'm most content with being forced to put up with.
- talmand 11y agoWell, it'll likely only be a matter of time before you can't turn it off.
- progressive_dad 11y agoT-Mobile has had a reputation as a reliable "outsider" with less coverage, but better business practices than its competitors as well as better rates. If T-Mobile is going to throw that reputation down the toilet then there is no reason for me to have 2 bars in my house in downtown Chicago.
- AjithAntony 11y agoLTE Personal Cellspot is great! Also, "two bars" may not actually be bad. If you are getting slow speeds, dropped calls, etc, then sure that is bad.
- progressive_dad 11y agoI get echoey awful voice, and it takes 30 seconds to load hacker news. Ditto for most of my commute on the "el" (above ground)
- tracker1 11y agoThe only leverage you have is the money you pay... if you leave, and tell them why, then they are motivated to change to stop loss. If you stay, then they are welcome to try other shady things that you may not catch.
- whistlecrackers 11y agoWell it's just more dramatic that way.
- arielweisberg 11y agoJust turned it off for myself. Thanks for the tip. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-24294 https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-24294
- rhgraysonii 11y agoAdmittedly, I live in Puerto Rico and T-Mobile is one of the few providers that have solid 4g coverage on most of the island. BUT: For $95 a month I get 14gb regular tethering, and these streaming services. Combined with the true unlimited 4g I get to my normal phone. My phone has HDMI-out, and I just connect it to my television. I've never once seen 480p video since this started using this strategy. I'm considering getting a cheap phone that has HDMI out and setting up a separate account to do this on and keep it at home all the time. I'm pro net-neutrality, but living on an island with somewhat-atrocious internet has led me to consider this the best thing ever in my day-to-day life entertainment wise.
