What is the major cost?
- noir_lord 11y agoInstallation/Labour costs, an inverter and if you want to be relatively off grid a honking great battery. Here in the UK battery backed PV on residentials isn't really a thing (it made no sense to store it in a battery when you can sell it back to the grid at a large tariff, however the government just killed the feed-in tariff (87% reduction) so the future of PV looks pretty bad). Kinda pissed about that tbh as we spent nearly a year working on a product for installers and then the government just kicked the legs out of the entire industry.

The batteries/capacitors you need just for a normal operation are based on the panel and your intended consumption, if you add additional storage it's usually a separate battery doo-dad that just counts as a consumer. As for the UK solar doesn't make sense here that much in general, the feed-in tariffs in the UK were just bonkers yes you want to set up high tariffs at first to increase adoption but it makes very little sense at subsidizing the tariffs and making electric companies buy it at a large premium.
