It is great until you power cycle machine that was behaving strange only to find out that it was due to HDD that was starting to fail and it does not boot anymore.
- karmakaze 11y agoIn a production environment, I prefer frequent power cycling. You don't want to be in a situation where a dev/ops is afraid to power cycle a server with very high uptime. If there turns out to be a problem anywhere, better to find it sooner than later where recovery is more likely and in the worst case fail-over or restore from a backup.
- marcosdumay 11y agoYep, but power cycle when there are people available, with enough time to fix any issue that may appear. The worst time for power cycling a machine is during an emergency.
