Wow, 530 points in a system where a $10 stock going to $1 (-90%) is weighted the same as a $200 stock going to $191 (-4.5%) — 9 points in each case.
In other news, the Dow is down 3% today. Doesn't sound as much like the end of the world as 530 points now does it?

- adventured 11y agoIn fact it's a huge deal because of the context. This was the worst week for the Dow in seven years and it indicates the US markets are joining the rest of the world in falling. It's extremely rare for US indices to tumble like this and for it to not indicate negative economic problems are either here or inbound.

- swsieber 11y agoI would like to see an index where points are weighted by price drop and total value of all shares of the stock. That would make things a little more accurate.
