It's a damn shame that the executable downloads are hosted on SourceForge. I'd be willing to give it a try, but it'll have to wait until I have the time to go through the rigmarole of compiling the source code.
- Breakthrough 11y agoVPaint was recently migrated to Github; you can download the binaries/source directly from the releases page: https://github.com/dalboris/vpaint/releases https://github.com/dalboris/vpaint/releases They migrated the project just a couple days ago, so I assume the download links on the main site will be updated in due time.
- jackmaney 11y agoAwesome! Downloading now.
- talkingtab 11y agoThanks. Just say no to sourceforge.
- krautsourced 11y agoI'm confused, what's the problem with them being hosted on SourceForge?

- sambe 11y agoThe second article suggests GitHub has a similar problem and the first says that SourceForge has an opt-in policy. I can obviously understand people wanting to boycott SF but no-one is talking about avoiding GH downloads. Did I miss an element of this story?
- nissehulth 11y agoI guess the main difference is that it is SF themselves that add some of the crapware in binaries distributed by them. As far as I know, Github have never done that. That people may upload malware to their github repo is quite different.
- Maxious 11y agoSourceForge has been wrapping adware around executables http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/05/sourceforge-grabs-gimp-for-windows-account-wraps-installer-in-bundle-pushing-adware/ http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/05/source...
- jackmaney 11y agoAs others have pointed out, SourceForge has become a malware distribution network.
- radiorental 11y agoI haven't seen evidence of malware, just adware wrappers from sourceforge. It's a small, but important, difference.
- sbarre 11y agoDepends on your definition of malware I guess.
- makomk 11y agoIt's hard to see exactly what SourceForge are offering because apparently they do VM detection and their installer is much better behaved when running in a VM, and most folks don't have a spare physical machine they can test it on and wipe afterwards. Which I think says a lot about how malicious their installers actually are.
- lambda 11y agoadware is a type of malware.
- jotm 11y agoIt's literally one click away... or are you boycotting Sourceforge?
- kwhitefoot 11y agoIsn't everyone?
- jotm 11y agoNever had a problem with them - just don't click on the misleading ads (or block them) :-)
- userbinator 11y agoIt's a .msi. You can download it, open in 7-zip, extract all the files, and run it directly. Quite frankly, it would've been better to distributing it as a single .zip file. SF has not been touching anything other than .exe installers, so there is no problem here.
