I’m loving this thread. I feel like Hunter S Thompson reading the gonzo review: “okay, that’s what I do. Shadow IT.”

Svelte is pretty close to this (at the expense of a build step). It gives you (in my opinion) better ergonomics that React, has no runtime and outputs sites that don’t require JS unless they do. Sveltekit (its official fullstack framework)

It’s quite a common pattern in modern frontend frameworks. Each component includes just the CSS required for that component (plus any global styles). At built time, the bundler will generate unique class names for each of the HTML elements

The exception is when using a framework which isolates CSS at the component level, in which case your class names don’t matter anywhere near as much because you’ll only ever see them alongside the corresponding HTML.

But very often it is software development. And there isn’t always some bright line between them. Like it or not, the web is an excellent platform for delivering software applications to users, especially one-off or infrequently used applica

I think the logic is that getting anyone to get out their credit card and pay anything at all for content is a tough barrier, and the difficulty of crossing it doesn’t scale linearly with the asking price. That and micropayments remain an u

If the price were nearly the same, why would anyone choose to deal with criminals and expose themselves to some level of legal risk when they could get the same product (with a warranty) in a store?

I agree, for what it’s worth. It’s hard. Roundup kills weeds and it seems miles better than other things that also kill weeds. But yeah it’s bad so don’t use it, but that doesn’t solve the question of what should we use instead. It’s genuin

Much software remains outside the browser, yes. Especially games and professional tools. But it’s not hyperbole to say the browser has become the dominant software delivery platform outside of mobile. Email, CRMs, CMSs, electronic dictionar

The verb “to opt” just means to make a choice. Programmers created the “opt in/opt out” binary as a useful way of describing how new features got rolled out. But it’s perfectly fine to say (for example) that I “out out” of voting, even
