The real problem here, as usual, is web browsers, the worst class of software ever written. We constantly come across these CSRF-style bugs that are only made possible by how stupid the browser and HTTP are, but instead of blaming the culpr

This was so absurd to me at first I had to think about it for a while. I guess you wrote it as a continuation of the opinion from the article that interfaces should only be used as input. From my perspective, I was still considering all oth

I don't see enough info in the article to conclude what happened. But I have a hypothesis. I bet they use certificate pinning. Process A launches process B and checks against a pinned certificate. This is even more secure than just usi

Seems like sort of a theoretical argument, so I have to point out that I believe it's theoretically wrong. Caveat that I'm not a blockchain programmer so somebody may be able to correct me here, but I believe it's true. Bitco

Nah. The second thing is the main thing. Your first point is just the typical SF exceptionalism narrative that has been touted by the Bay VC startup ideology for the last 20 years. The sad truth is, it's not a coincidence that so many

Ironically it is essentially the event loop which causes the deadlock in C#. Depending on what framework/runtime you're in .NET will schedule the await continuation on something called a "SynchronizationContext" which ha

Think again--since when do graphs depict only cold, dry data? Graphs have always been useful for depicting relationships--real or proposed. Line graphs in particular are often found depicting proposed relationships rather than real data (th

Maybe part of the problem is I can't picture what you're actually talking about with soft typing. I can tell you C#/.NET has the DLR which allows you to do dynamic types whenever you want. Outside of a few gimmicks, you rarel

I'm not sure what you're saying but I think I've experienced it. Youtube tries to get me to skip parts. I watch parts 1,2,3, it recommends 5 and I have to go searching for 4. Without fail it wants me to skip one.

It's not possible. As soon as WebAssembly gets as big as the web, someone will implement a browser-embedded browser in WebAssembly that runs in the browser and we will be back to square 1 in this kafkaesque nightmare we call Web.

According to all the generation-war articles, young people don't have any money, so in that view the places desirable to young people would be declining in value. I have a feeling the truth might be simple. Normal home values are mostl

Not really true. They built a new OS-level api called winrt. It includes a subset of win32. However, other parts of it are completely new and do not "call into win32" the way, say, .NET on Windows generally does.

Using CEF in Mono to serve HTML/js based UI over a mono-C# back-end is very feasible, and results in a superior program which answers most of the Electron complaints in this post. But to answer your question, yes, it's a terrible
