I love and use both clickhouse and duckdb all the time, but it's become almost comical how senior clickhouse leadership comment on any duckdb-related HN thread like clockwork. And only very rarely bring up their affiliation :)

Cars from the mid-noughts (the right ones of course! [0]) are the sweet-spot for me. New enough to have modern safety features (like airbags - I know, funny to refer to that as modern) - but still be user-serviceable. I bought an relatively

Some unsolicited, anecdotal advice I hope will be appreciated - After several years of perennial macOS environment hell (part of which was spent working in a much more research-oriented environment - e.g. lots of ancient HPC packages, etc.)

Oh lovely, can't wait to give this a watch. Freya dives deep, and gives wonderful talks. Her video "The Continuity of Splines"[0] is my favorite watch of the past year. [0] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvP

libpg_query is a godsend of a library. I spent a lot of time writing a custom parser before I found it - was very happy to replace the whole thing. A major boon was the fingerprinting ability - one of my needs was to track query versions in

I still use a core 2 duo some days. For basic web browsing (albeit with a pihole on the network) and shelling, it works fine. I think it’s the longest running machine I have. A Thinkpad X200 - not wiped in 13 years (since installing Arch).

I was just talking about billboards, in response to a comment talking about physical signage - I wasn't making any assertions about any other forms of advertisement, physical or digital, in Vermont or anywhere else.

I've been pretty impressed with the Leaf - I don't have one, but some friends do. Pretty hackable and serviceable on your own. The acceleration and torque on that thing is insane. It's pretty easy to swap out the batteries of

Some states (Maine, Vermont come to mind off the bat) have banned billboards. I don't think anyone is talking about a sign hanging outside of a shop - pretty sure people are mostly referring to digital advertisements.

I think a decent solution is coming up with a system for storing the models and datasets, checkpoints, etc. in S3 - store the metadata, references, etc. in a well structures postgres table (schema versioning, audit logs, etc. with snapshots

I wish I could find mutton easier! I've always loved "Gamey" meats. I've mostly only found mutton at Halal butchers, and only some times. Rarely at extremely "high-end", bougie butchers, and very expensive.

OOC, what are you listening to? The youtube playlist has 2 videos for each lecture, a zoom recording focusing on the slides with the professor visible on camera, and a classroom recording - the latter definitely has better audio quality, bu

Depends where in the Northeast you are! Half the people in Vermont own a gun, New Hampshire and Maine aren’t much different. NY/RI/MA/CT/NJ have relatively low gun ownership rates, for sure.

Oh, I full-heartedly understand and agree! However, I think referring to something as "free" when it's explicitly "free right now and probably not later" is a bit misleading. I doubt GP was trying to pull any wool o

Nothing against this model, but your website states “OrbStack is completely free to use during beta, but it will become a paid product afterwards.”[0] Also, the rest of the page implies OrbStack will be charging for any commercial use. If t

I'm pretty much 100% sure that's the reason, and a good one at that. Mailing lists are the lifeblood of a lot of big open source projects.
