Found my sister! I think I met up with her a few days after this photo was taken. I was envious of her being able to thru-hike - but I made the time to go visit her along the trail and probably did about 400 miles of it, on and off. Excited

Not arguing that Christianity and other religions aren't misogynistic - I mean, seriously, there is a borderline unfathomable amount of serious misogynistic baggage there. However, on the point of last names, I feel the urge to point o

Contrary to the (most of the) rest of the comments here, I quite enjoyed this. It's refreshing to get a (relatively former) outsider's take on a world that's a majority of one's working hours. Is the content of this arti

Just a thought - looking at it another way, "code", in the popular zeitgeist, has an association with rigid, unchanging processes. I feel like perhaps, the sentiment comes from that? Like, even if you're just implementing bub

Huh, that’s convenient and really useful. When I do ridiculous import hacks, i usually just do it be importing a module, that trades the ast module to rewrite code, exec it and shim in an exit(). A preprocessor would be so much more ergonom

Huh. I've had the opposite experience. Neo4j has a pretty nice interface and package overall, but I was not impressed with the performance, and the developer experience was about on-par with Elasticsearch (not comparing the two databas

IME, with flakes, yes. Fork nixpkgs and remove what you’re not using, manually cherry pick what you want. That’s not advice I’ve heard anyone give before, but it’s so nice to just have a a distro that is yours, and everything has a purpose.

I remember watching a (wonderful) T.V. show[0] that came out within the last couple decades, and feeling like a certain scene was definitely a nod to this story. The drama, and physics (and resolution) was done differently, but it left

My process for this is usually: - Poke at the EXE for a few hours to days. Sometimes it's just a self-extracting executable and you can just find the raw firmware binary. Sometimes you have to spend a few days relearning the basics of

You are right! Though I do have immense respect for those languages - not love, but respect. The way one respects a grouchy aging tiger. Not extinct, its ilk will be around forever, and I don’t want to be the one caring for it.

I love NixOS, and the nvidia-x11 package is truly wonderful and captures so many options. But having such a complex package makes updating and regression testing take time. For ML stuff I ended up using it as the basis for an overlay, and r
