No, a database reflects what you make out of it. Reports are just queries after all. I dont know what all the other stuff you named has to do with the database directly. The only purpose of databases is to store and read data, thats what it

The post is about solar events, good luck getting machine agents working in case this happens... It is pessimistic yes, but what in recent history did happen to not have a pessimistic outlook on things?

Well big tech wants to replace all the white collar jobs with their bullshit ChatGPT wrappers, so it wouldn't be surprising if actual skill vanishes.

Just implement concurrency with actors and u save up on some locks and mutexes... The patterns are available, its up to the community to apply proper concurrency patterns.

Well most Javascript based apps ive seen utilize stuff like Redis for scaling, this for example isn't needed with Elixir.

Oh I already consider myself a Polyglot, I just need tools that make building fun. I try to leave Js frameworks in my private projects

We actually use Prawn PDF at work so I have soooome degree of contact to Ruby already, I might check it out at some point. Thanks for the detailed answer!

> There's more big apps/websites using Rails than Elixir or Phoenix... Sure, but thats a weak argument considering Ruby on Rails is considerably older than Phoenix and adoption is in decline while Phoenix grows.

Yea, I am tackling Elixir to avoid learning tech specifically designed for solving scaling issues with languages not made for scaling. Elixir is wonderful for this. How's Ruby considering scaling and performance? I always compare Ruby

I know Ruby is still used in some codebases but what's its actual relevance in the webdev/fullstack landscape? I am currently 5 months into learning Elixir/Phoenix for fullstack and I already know a few Js based frameworks. R

Coffee isn't nearly as self destructive as smoking or marijuana. Moderation is key for everything. Unfortunately the alcoholics I know and the weed addicts aren't the biggest fans of moderation. I lost friends to both so yea. Also

Where are the long time studies on vaping? I regularly read news about vaping with new findings on it being unhealthy... Not gonna defend smoking but also not gonna defend any other loser behavior regarding drugs.

Some things you can actively avoid though. And inhaling smoke on a regular basis is one of them. I'm particularly sensitive about this topic because I live in a country in which my tax money is used to finance treatment of illnesses th

And any kind of smoke isn't good for the lungs. I'm tired of people pretending that Marijuana is that wonder drug that's somehow "healthier" than smoking. It's just less unhealthy, which still makes it unhealth

I really don't want that. The rich will find a way to force us into jobs we dont want. I'd rather develop software than cleaning toilets to be honest...

Interesting. When I generate auth for Phoenix the API endpoints are not piped through any security pipes. Only the browser endpoints. Why wouldn't I secure my API endpoints? The same kind of requests that are made for browser requests

Where's the difference in employing a freelancer for 1 month for 20k vs paying an employee for 3 months for less? It doesn't make any sense.

When times get tough they shouldnt hire freelancers in the first place... If they have ongoing hires they pay 3 times as much on a freelancer as they do on an employee... this logic doesn't check out at all
