That's not even remotely close to what vidarh said. Try reading it again.

Fair enough. I was referring to the larger discussion.

Right - we were discussion OAuth in the context of client apps.

The client can intercept whatever URL the embedded webview is redirected to. The callback URL provides no security against this.

I see... Do you run nginx and haproxy on the same box?

OK then why HAProxy? Why not just let nginx do the load balancing? (Obviously you have a reason now if you plan to use the method in the blog post again, but what about before?)

Consider this an expression of interest from the community. :) (We're planning on doing something similar in the future.)

We don't deploy on Heroku, so I didn't know about that process. Your other two points are true though. We consider the trade-off worth it for the memory gains.

Brightbox has Ruby 1.9 packages with the GC copy-on-write-friendly patches included. We run it in production with good results.

Sure, but the failure means that you don't get push notifications - you can still use your email app.

Not true - they could check email and send you push notifications server-side, but still have the client talk directly to gmail for nearly all functions.

Ashton may have some nerd cred, but I promise you that your girlfriend/wife/whatever does not see him as a nerd.

That's a fine definition, but I don't think it implies that power users cannot be satisfied with OS X window management.

I don't understand that part of the slides. Redshift isn't billed per-query, it's billed by instance-hour.

What, exactly, is your definition of "power user"?

"EBS Priops seem promising and different." We run many busy PG databases on PIOPS. The difference from normal EBS is huge. Very happy with PIOPS.

Redshift is built on ParAccel, not Postgres. It speaks the Postgres API, but the storage engine is not Postgres.

These vulnerabilities have been present for many years. They're just being found now. If anything, the quality is now going up. :)

I don't think that pendulum has swung to the MacPorts side for many years.

Surprisingly, Elastic Transcoder doesn't look to be very price competitive with Zencoder at scale. Zencoder is $0.02/minute, while this is $0.015 (stdef) and $0.030 (hidef). If you're doing hidef content, Zencoder is a clear (pricing) win.

Aaron struggled with depression long before he downloaded the JSTOR papers. How is depression a consequence of the trial?

To anyone reading this later... I am wrong here. Heavy Utilization reservations are charged whether or not you have instances running. Medium and Light are only charged when running.

Good reminder, but this has always been true. Giving unfiltered user-specified content to YAML has never been a good idea.

That's also not exactly true. If you purchase a reserved instance, you pay the up front price, and then the reduced hourly price for whenever the instance is running .
