There was a time where I had to use some outdated ad blocker. ALL news sites would display this "Disable your Ad blocker if you want to read this site" full screen block (that was, of course, not blockable with an easy host list).

yeah that's actually the point of the outrage. Using block lists is nice, but modern adlockers can do much, much more. If you just use lists, chances are the Ad industry - with the help of Google, will find a way to circumvent it. They

You go to hotel.com and you don't get a good offer because they know exactly how much you are willing and able to pay. Sounds good? now do this for every other thing you buy online. Good enough?

Never? You may not remember this, but Google used to be cool. "Don't be evil", and all that. There was a lot of hope - when Microsoft was still the bad guys. Working at Google was the dream - they made movies about that. Nowa

It's hilarious that you can go to jail for more than three years for "picking quarrels and provoking trouble”. "Deng was arrested on May 17 and police warned his family not to hire a lawyer, the rights group said in a stateme

Why would you expect that? It seems to me that Google does this precisely because they have tech to circumvrnt dumb- style list blocking, but not more advanced heuristics.

It does not allow blocking Google\any tracking and Google ads, essentially, and gives the Ad industry (and malware) a way to circumvent the blocker with modern tech, because it is a non smart ad blocker but a dumb filter list from 2002. Thi

By the way, think about what would happen if you could differentiate in two dimensions? You'd be on a plane or a circle on which a demand distribution exists... etc. That's the idea.

This is actually a common misunderstanding. The example of ice-cream vendors on a beach or, in this case, gas stations, are toy examples. The model is not really about location. It is about product differentiation in SOME dimension. By exte
