I really do like the practical challenge that Vapnik poses and based on what you wrote I support the agenda. In the face of the trial&error mentality prevalent in ML, it does strike me as a wise approach towards advancement. However, th

This is always an interesting discussion. I think what you say is probably right "in practice" - that is, it is where ML should move now to improve its ability to generalize. However, from a more statistical viewpoint, this approa

Well, to test the system sure. That's normal. However, the issue not quite as simple when training a model. For instance, the increasingly popular Transformer architecture pushes around internal representations when fed new training sa

The logistic regression would likely pick up on that if it were a stratification issue.

This is why consumer protection needs laws, but also laws that are effective. It isn't just about laws existing: In this case, it sure ain't legal for Newegg to sell a broken motherboard as working, and then decline the RMA. Howev

Can you be specific then? Like, you are aware that you have a 2 week period minimum, and a 6 month period for defective wares. There's also many shops that have more than a 2 week period because it's good customer policy. It'

In the EU? For the first 6 months, the legal assumption is that any defect was present at purchase which means - in practice - you can return pretty much any defective item no questions asked. What did you want to return and could not?

The point is though that a EU citizen has zero privacy rights when data is transferred to the US. Zero. Not US level protection, not EU level protection - just fair game. For that simple reason the EU has to step in. There is no other way.

Let me try to explain it: One usually thinks of open sets as collections of numbers without a "boundary" - the boundary of the set is not part of the set but outside of it. If we look at the open set, we see that it's just &
