Well, I was careful to write cross-platform C++ code from the start, meticulously isolating the few platform-specific parts. Yes, it's a lot to learn at start, but Powershell is rather user-friendly, so it helps. Yes, I work slower now

I've recently worked on optimizing a piece of integer-based AVX2 code which was running in a tight loop (dot product of 128-dimensional vectors with 8-bit components). I inspected the assembly generated by MSVC17, and it did a really g

A meta-comment on this: had this been a bug in VC people here would shit on Microsoft and their non-compliance to standards, not caring and so on and so on. But since it's in GCC, people are discussing a language feature.

I prefer to use language constructs to enforce correct usage where possible. For example, if a set of values have to be synchronized by a mutex, I wrap them in a struct and http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_63_0/

What is the motivation behind this? Multi-CAS is used as a basic building block for lock-free data structures to emulate more complicated transactional operations. But when you already have TSX, why would you use multi-CAS to emulate them?
