Thanks for your explanation! Since HN cut of your URLs, the similarity between the filenames didn't jump to my eye. You're right, 2007 doesn't mention Puncher, it only mentions his close colleague Birchall. Both were publishi

So I read the article and I don't think it's as bad as you make it. The part that explains his involvement in the investigation is actually backed by a now inaccessible source. It would be crucial to know what the authors linked t

Half of them are logic errors and around 15 bugs are integer overflows of which the project above is riddled with.

For simple audio playback there's not much difference between their APIs. OSS is a bit of an outlier because it works on a sound device via standard IO system calls. All the other frameworks expose very similar functions: you initializ

Your comment contains no details whatsoever, then you described perfectly sane mmap behavior, so what do I know?

A call to unlink removes the name from the filesystem, but keeps the file around as long as it's still opened by a process; and mmap keeps the file opened, even if you close the original file descriptor.

More than enough. Chromium takes only 128 bits from /dev/urandom to seed a V8 isolate. You can also use a fixed seed like Googlebot by passing the command line flag --js-flags="--random_seed=12345" to Chromium.

You misread your source. Service providers outside the EU are not required to provide an imprint, even if their website is targeting German customers.

All modern hashes are designed for 64-bit architectures and some even rely on recent instruction sets. So a benchmark on an old 32-bit CPU isn't indicative of the performance you'll see on a modern processor, e.g. Metrohash will d

The benchmarks on the xxHash Github page were done on a 32-bit system using an old Visual C++ compiler. Of course you can beat hash functions that were explicitly designed for modern 64-bit architectures. The Core 2 lacks the CRC instructio

The restrict keyword is supposed to enable optimizations, not to increase safety. You promise you won't access the memory location through different pointers and the compiler throws some precautions overboard.
