Tediousness of hiring a contractor is exaggerated . I've had clients from many places, including USA. Signing the contract was as simple as putting my signature PNG file into PDF and sending back. Payment was done with invoices, throu

Yes, that's the problem with similar open-ended tasks - the assessment is very subjective. And I have a feeling that I'm gambling - in terms of allocating time vs what I'll get. That's why paid projects make more sense -

First two years in the US PhD is like a master's degree studies - regular lectures/courses. That is way US PhD program is usually 5 years long and you apply with Bachelor's degree. In Europe, mostly, you're required to h

Yes, there is a trade-off. But the choice should exist, which is not the case so far, unfortunately.

Right, that is the difference between PhD in USA versus mainland Europe - where PhD is regarded as a regular salaried job (albeit very low-paying). Basically, after some intro time with the professor, you're really on your own. Interac

Personally, I'd want to get a PhD to be able to work in such places as Microsoft Research. I don't want to become a teacher/professor. Other than that, I really hate some perils of academic world - bureaucracy, nepotism/

Any infrastructure or implementation details for HN userbase? Like where do you store videos (S3?), approximate costs, etc...

Any world-wide REMOTE engineering positions? Or maybe H1B and relocation sponsoring?

I'd be more happy if Unity goes toward being more programmer-friendly. Fully code-only projects support, no need to waste a lot of time tinkering in that complex UI, etc...

Thanks for the interesting answer! As for the engine - Cocos2d-x is already cross-platform, including the platforms you've listed, I believe, so I didn't quite understand where does Marmalade fit?

Great game! Reminds me one game on NES. Since you posted on HN, some technical details wouldn't hurt I guess - what engine, tools were used, etc... Also, free apps with IAPs are really trendy nowadays. Is the market really bad for &quo

It seems to be a US-only phenomenon. I have yet to see a non-US company which allows remote working and restricts the location within its country.

Just hire people as contractors and it is extremely easy. They send you invoices periodically, you send them money through regular bank wire transfer.
