The princess cruise ship study also gave an IFR (for China) of 0.5%, and an early epidemiological modeling study put the symptomatic CFR at 1.4% which would imply 0.7% IFR assuming it's 50% symptomatic. https://www.nature.co

The Facebook ad essentially said "get tested for COVID-19 here", so very plausibly infected people could be more likely to respond.

They could remove only obvious errors/lies like "drink bleach" rather than subscribe to a single authoritative source of truth. As another commenter noted, wearing a mask contradicts WHO advice.

The virus takes time (2-3 weeks) to kill people, and the prevalence was presumably measured within the last week. Therefore, we have to take out the cases that occurred in the last week or two. I would suspect that 50% is on the upper end o

That doesn't make sense to me. I would think you'd want to get to the point where you've reached the carrying capacity, so that "overshoot" of the equilibrium doesn't result.

I'm sorry, I don't know much about medicine so maybe you could clear up what those studies found. If I understand correctly, they both looked at COVID-19 patients and the first one found 83% had detectable antibodies and the secon

Is there a write-up for this study? Or anywhere with data/methodology released? Also, is this particularly good news? Using the raw numbers from the headline and the deaths from here https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh&#

> How do they find enough suitable land to practice their way of life? It's a stupid answer, but I would guess they buy it, just like anyone else. I've heard about groups of Amish moving to new areas to start communities.

Is comparing the per capita cost of healthcare to that of U.S. really fair, especially when advocating adopting certain elements of the "Amish system"? The U.S. is pretty the worst example of keeping costs down; other first worl

Assuming false positives aren't correlated even with independently manufactured tests seems like a terrible idea to me, knowing little about medicine.

I think all the serious scientific papers I've read have long put fatality estimates far below what early WHO press releases suggested.

There's not enough data to "believe" anything, and most of the pushback is because the studies are methodologically flawed. I think that fatality rate estimates between 0.5% and 1% seem to best match some of the early data on

Electric lines caused fires a few weeks after the first outage. I feel like at this point PG&E is in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation (though it might have been brought on by past mismanagement).
