Anyone you'd hire would be risking breaking the law in the U.S. or some other country, plus you'd have no legal protection if they decided to screw you over.

The fact that he was sentenced based on a crime he was not convicted for is a travesty and in my opinion unconstitutional (violates the rights to a public jury trial and to due process).

With a emulator it's easier to use save states and splice different parts of the run together, or to otherwise cheat. Given that Billy Mitchell has stated that he never used a emulator but the footage contradicts that, a lot of people

Well if he's cheated in one game, I think it's perfectly reasonable to issue a full ban, and I'm sure TG's TOS gives them full discretion to do so.

I wish more companies would take this position, but one barrier to taking this position is that the penalties are so skewed. You can face far larger damages for even minor copyright infringement than spurious takedown requests. Plus there&#

I agree. However, from my understanding, it doesn't matter if the takedown notice is completely without merit. As long as it meets the requirements, Github has to follow it in order to avoid liability.

I don't understand which of the required elements you think the notice lacks. It identifies both the content which it claims is infringing (linking the repos) and the songs which it claims are infringed (by name). Relevant statute: ht

I've seen very little animosity towards Github. The law in this case makes Github respond promptly to any takedown request, even if it's wrong. Github can face liability for copyright infringement unless it > (C)upon notificati

They probably can't go after Github because part of the purpose of DMCA takedowns is that companies which honor takedowns avoid liability for copyright infringement.

What if I use youtube-dl like mpv <(youtube-dl youtube.com/video-url) or similar. Then no permanent copy is made. I agree that they could have been cleverer in their marketing.

Fair use doesn't apply to DRM circumvention unfortunately. You can't even circumvent DRM for reasons completely unrelated to duplicating a copyrighted work.

It's pretty ridiculous. They might argue that a browser is a technological measure to protect a copyrighted work which youtube-dl circumvents since the DMCA is written so vaguely. Cases like this demonstrate why anti-circumvention liti
