I'm sure it's been explored before, but that's not how it works. If China started dumping their Treasuries lead to significant domestic inflation, which they definitely don't want. Also, minor point, Japan holds more Tre

Yep, and I also have regularly scheduled real PTO. Every third Wednesday is a PTO day where I do personal projects or just watch TV or read a book. My company has unlimited PTO and I have no compunctions about using that to my advantage.

Geothermal is kind of amazing. We have a geothermal system that can get to 5.1 COP. We used 650 kWh for heat in December, which translates to 22 therms. The average household in my area uses roughly 110 therms per month for winter space hea

By default Podman doesn't have a daemon running as root, although you can opt into it. Podman instead really encourages setting up systemd units to keep your images running.

I set up a private mirror of everything I use from docker hub because I came home from vacation one day recently to discover that my home IP had been throttled for days. Now I have a small GitHub Action project that mirrors from hub.docker.

You are precisely correct, and that's why it's always been raised. Congress (mostly, but not exclusively, the Republican Party) just uses it as a cudgel to extract budget concessions from the other party in the next budget.

The article goes on to note that when FDIC wound up Wachovia in 2008 there were $130Bil in uninsured deposits and all of them were made whole.

It's exceedingly unlikely to be anything less than 99. The FDIC wants to reassure everyone so there aren't more runs. Do you really think they're going to let the eventual purchaser not make everyone whole?

I ended up making a dedicated 2.4GHz-only SSID for my wifi cameras, which seems to have helped. I think forcing them to 2.4GHz, at least for my house RF situation, was the thing that helped the most.

I have a smallish Protect system (UNVR, four G4 Pros, one doorbell, two G3 Instants). The positives are that it pretty much just works. The mobile app is excellent, the web app on the UNVR is fine, and it has full spousal approval factor. I

This has not been my experience with mostly G4 pro hardwired PoE cameras. I have their G4 doorbell and did have similar problems until I upgraded its transformer and pointed an access point directly at it. Been smooth sailing ever since.

A rural ISP might not even have the possibility of redundancy. There might be just one backbone fiber within reasonable distance. For example, there's a local rural fiber ISP near me that had to invest quite a lot into digging a fiber

Cacheing at the edge might help in certain situations but a global reservation and check-in system seems like the kind of thing that needs to be centralized. I think a more workable solution would have been to treat transit for this data ce

IMO the biggest reason why you'd run OpenWRT rather than anything else is the hardware support. OpenWRT has very broad hardware support for a huge number of commercial devices. VyOS and (pf|opn)sense basically only run on x86_64.

That sounds like a really nice, simple setup. I have an unfortunate mix of gear from different vendors, but my setup is broadly similar. VyOS on an old SFF box, PoE whenever possible, etc. My physical topology means I need more layers of sw

Get a 19" keystone panel and then you can do whatever you want. There are keystones available for Ethernet, coax, rj11 POTS, hdmi, fiber, basically anything.

Kind of a fraught comparison. SpaceX intentionally learned by blowing rockets up, figuring out what went wrong, fixing, and trying again. The same learning process applied to nuclear reactors is problematic at best.
