I think fragmentation is a legitimate problem for end-users but I don’t know how to solve it exactly, because the most obvious alternative is a monopoly where everything is on just one service (and we all know about the bad effects a monopo

Just checked and I'm getting about 5% CPU on idle, with no animations (for FluentAvalonia) and about 30% (did observe 40% once but was an edge case) when animations are playing on screen. Sorry for the misinformation. (I can't edi

I'm talking from memory (tried opening the FluentAvalonia sample so the styling may have affected it), but I will try again later and post results hopefully. Others found high CPU usage too, but not as high as 70% (more like half that)

@JaggerJo who started FuncUI replied to this very thread. Hopefully he will see your comment and be able to answer.

That sounds reasonable to me. I remember game loops being split into one draw() and one update() function and would expect UI frameworks to be the same. I think, in games, it's usual to traverse twice through each object in a graph on

I have to disagree that the high CPU usage I mentioned is an issue with Skia in the case of Avalonia. Other frameworks like Flutter which use Skia don't have such a high CPU load on my computer so I'm pretty sure the high CPU usag

Would be curious to see an example of what you consider a fast UI. (I hear Skia is faster than most alternatives like Cairo, so your statement makes me think that rendering 2D UIs is just slow in general.) Last time I tried Avalonia UI on M

Do you mean accessibility? I did notice disappointing non-native-like behaviours when I tried typing in an AvaloniaUI textbox but I'm hopeful they will manage to solve that and other issues. For example, pressing a space will always in

I think this is an unnecessarily uncharitable reading, that the author assumes HN is a hive mind. Replace "HN users" with "most HN users" (it's common to use general language when one's intention is to point ou

I read the article and found it interesting to be honest (and enjoyed reading people's comments here on their experience with FreeBSD), although it is a rumour and I agree there are good reasons for disallowing/filtering those.

I saw the phrase “are we X yet” used in the Rust community (is Rust ready for games or whatever) but never realised the phrase’s origin with Mozilla. Thank you for the little piece of history.

I’m a Vim user, but I don’t agree with that argument about cognitive load. When typing in a normal editor, you just type letters and those same letters typed just show up on a screen (as in Vim’s insert mode). The mouse is pretty intuitive
