I wouldn't say I'm married to it. I actually like the Facebook timeline, and it is what inspired this project. I wondered what my github feed would look like in a timeline/filterable form. So I built it. The main goal is to be able to tak

I do think there may be some honest criticisms for it. But regarding gitspective, my design is bad. Very bad. So bad, I considered making everything shades of hot pink so it might motivate a designer (who would normally pass) to help me out

Totally agree. The PullRequest events have stale data regarding the status of the pull request. I think it's capturing the status at the time the event occurs. I was considering firing off requests to find out the latest status of PullReque

Original Dev here. This is still rough around the edges. There are views that aren't implemented for certain events and masonry behaving oddly sometimes when filtering. I hope you all like it thought!

I don't classify myself as a 501 developer. I'm probably the opposite that they're rallying against. But I don't dismiss 501ers. Two things strike me from the manifesto. Since I've become a parent, I've noticed 5:00 has become more importan

(GPLv2; AGPL etc changes this) Could you clarify? GPLv2 doesn't require source in this case and AGPL does? Or both GPLv2 and AGPL (along with versions) do?

I've been reading up on GPL because I know little about the nuances, but I think you only need to GPL and provide the source code if you distribute it to others. Web seems tricky for GPL, but I thought that was the purpose of AGPL. Please c

That's a hyperbolic comparison. Yes, focusing on outliers makes all the other data points look the same. My point is that in the context of each team/app, those differences in acceptable risk matter.

@dhh was talking about this on twitter before he made this post. And I think @dchelimsky has a very fair point that @dhh ignores: testing is all about effort to eliminate some amount of risk. Test x but don't test y can't be universal. Ris

After playing with a language with a great type system (Haskell, not Java/C++), I've become more wary and borderline uncertain about my Ruby code. My integration tests serve two purposes: 1) Runs the code in an repeatable and isolated envir

I would be ok with that. I would say I'd be willing to pay up to $20. Larger projects may even have of more of a need, but then again they may or may not have the design talent who can contribute. I believe a well designed presence goes a l

I very recently wrote http://collectiveidea.com/blog/archives/2012/03/16/your-iden... and I think it's very relevant in encouraging people just beginning to contribute to open source.

I was considering elaborating on this point in the post, but the post was long enough already. So I decided to keep it out. But I think this is a very important point. (1) you really don't know what conditions caused the code to become bad

I'm the original author, and I agree with your point. I do think the things you produce are part of your identity. It's when a person mentally replaces "part of" with "is" that it becomes dangerous. We can be so much more than the artif

I'm the author, and no, this was not in response to that post. However I don't see them mutually exclusive. I'm fine with Github being someone's resume, and in fact the less concern you have over other peoples' opinions of your code, the be

We’ll increase the number of clients we work with both in our current locations and in new offices as we expand to additional locations So PivotalLabs will still consult but also work on internal ECM "stuff"?

I don't have anything against HAML, and actually think the syntax is alright. Even gave it a spin some smaller codebases. But I have a hard time finding reasons to switch to it. Until I find a compelling reason to use it, HTML works fine fo

It annoys me that I'm in the process of starting a user group in the "remote" Northern Michigan. In the beginning I emailed a personal invitation to the larger tech companies in the area just to come and hang out. Mingle with developers, an

Thanks! There are certainly many ways to skin this cat. I'm a big fan of Steve's approach though. I've seen my own codebases get too squirrely w/ the view and controller strategies.
