I would say the internal combustion engine has not meaningfully cut people's day to day travel. Where prevalent, many just live further away and travel a long time still. I understand that long distance travel has been revolutionized b

Yes, it sounds like in this case there is systematic targeting of certain sized businesses in order to extract the maximum amount of cash. Big companies can afford compliance and lawyers. The little companies may not be able to.

The article uses the 'Forbes 100 fastest growing companies' list and equates it with the most successful companies. Fastest growing does not mean most successful.

The point is that it is inaccurate to use the word 'right' because the government is providing a product not a right as a right is something that you would have inherently without the government there anyways.

Fast buses are difficult if they are stuck in car traffic. Remove the cars and the bus can move much faster. If the bus moves faster and can more accurately predict a schedule, more people may use it, which allows more frequent runs, and so

Busses can move a LOT faster without cars in the way and can be much more timely. Also, higher usage means that they can run more frequently, which also improves the usage rate.

Competition is what drives down costs in a market. If costs are going out of control, perhaps there is something in the current system that is preventing competition? Lack of price transparency?

*Some American showers. Probably most, but plenty of them allow for controlling both. My shower has a separate temperature control that can be left at the desired setting.

There definitely are, but all of the ones I can think of off the top of my head were created before cars and zoning came about.

Not explicitly outlawed. However, cars are favored over everything. An example: when it snows, giant plow trucks come and clear the roads but the snow gets pushed to the side often covering the sidewalks so nobody can walk unless they walk

The free market is not what is creating sprawl. Sprawl is created by policy effectively outlawing anything but cars. Also, cars are convenient when everything is designed for them and pretty much them alone.

Schools don't need to be the crappy temporary trailers. However, do schools need fancy immense structures or can they just lease office space?

Perhaps schools should just be built with temporaries? It seems like there are no schools that are ever the right size. They either close the 100m school that was built 10 years ago because they don't need it or they need 100m to build

Cars aren't a money loser? Think of all those parking spots that cities pay for as well as the massive road infrastructure (as well as extra utilities that have to be run to account for urban sprawl). Cars are massively subsidized.

What is interesting to me is that cycling technology really didn't come about until cars came. The first reasonably safe bikes were from the 1880s-90s and the car came in 1886. I wonder what would have happened had the cycling tech of
