Actually, urban freeways around the world are getting ripped out. They are even looking at doing it to one in Detroit. I would be surprised if the freeways for the big dig are still around in 50 years let alone 200.

There are state and federal dollars that are used by these municipalities to widen their roads and such. It is not something that happened without coordination. A federal policy in which 10x more money is available for roads vs transit is a

Yes, a lot of road money comes from state/federal budgets, not local. It actually causes many problems. Residents don't want a freeway through their town but guess who makes those decision?

A country can still improve wealth and health of the citizens without an increasing GDP. If work is spent on impactful areas that make people's lives better. Motion is not necessarily progress. "Growth" where we spend loads o

School districts spend an insane amount of money. The budget of our local school district is 10x that of the city and they mismanage the hell out of it. They just spent 100M building a new middle school when the old one was only ~40 years o

Not all bike lanes are created equal. Paint does not protect riders. Plastic cones do not protect riders. Car drivers can still veer into a bike lane that is delineated in this manner if they are not paying attention. Actual protected bike

Also, published prices in a standard format available on the web would go a long ways. Current state of system: How much does something cost? You will find out after the fact.

It missed a really nice one with walkable cities: the Caesar series. I remember playing Caesar 2 in the 90s and I believe there are newer ones.

As far as I know they only put them in the super expensive houses that are made extremely tight. If they use spray foam insulation then there is very little air circulation so that they need to add an ERV just to get enough air to breath.

I'm not advocating 0 speeds. However, simply investigating every single crash and then making changes to road design for safety would be a start.

Speed is always the issue. How many cars crash into each other going 0?

Lower speeds allow for more reaction time across the board. If a crash happens it is because at least one vehicle was going too fast.

At least around me, most noise pollution is just from cars. Electric cars are no better than IC cars at speed. I can hear the highway (3 miles away) at all times day or night. Perhaps people can not envision a world with less driving so the

This is good. It makes no sense at all to do electric car incentives for thousands of dollars but not incentivize far cheaper and greener options like they've done in Canada and US.

Georgia and much of the US has car-requiring zoning laws that should change to allow more intelligent use of land and not necessitate ridiculous commutes.

Local control over zoning is a massive problem. Most people agree that building more homes would bring housing prices down. However, most cities have more than half of the land exclusively reserved for single family homes and have rules tha
