This article reminds me of a book I read many years ago, "The Mozart forgeries", by Daniel Leeson [1]. It tells the story of two forgers which create the autographs of two Mozart's most beloved works for clarinet, the Clarine

Agreed! :-) However, making students see how complex constructs translate into a sequence of simple assembler operations helps a lot in understanding what compilers are all about.

Thank you for creating this nice tool! I am teaching a C++ class, and sometimes I connect to Compiler Explorer in real time to explain how things are translated into low-level operations. I found this approach eye-opening for students, as i

I agree: in fact, i earn my wages by applying this very method every day! But one must also be aware of the limits of this method. A few of the specialists consulted by Salvatore Crisafulli's family were too sure of their beliefs, up t

I read Pilecki's book (aThe Auschwitz Volunteer: Beyond Bravery) and found it incredible. And I too was amazed to read in the introduction that during Pileki's detainment by the communist regime, he told one of his friends that, c

Really interesting read. However, I fear that if other C library maintainers will start to use this kind of techniques, creating bindings for other languages will become increasingly difficult.

There were several outbreaks in the centuries 14th-19th. Did the data used by the author cover all the major ones? My impression is that it is easier to recover data for the most recent outbreaks than for the older ones.

Really?! Then I should consider moving from Italy to the UK! (I am a father of three, and here there are no exemptions at all for diapers, baby food, bottles, and so on. VAT here is 22%.)

Given that parents need to buy diapers, kid clothes, and other stuff needed by babies, if UK still has VAT I do not believe that parents are «net drains».

I disagree. I have three kids, and before them being born I was aware that being a parent means a lot of work. But I realize now that I was not really understanding what being a father really means. It's much more laborious, complex ye

I was not referring to templates only, but to the overall complexity of the C++ language. Examples: syntactic ambiguities, the preprocessor... Templates are a big part of the problem, but not the only one for sure. Languages like Free Pasca

Not the OP, but here are my 2¢. Introducing generics in a language implies a deep revision of the type system, which risks to become much more complex to understand. Moreover, this might have a bad impact on compilation performance (compare
